Thank You letters for the week of Dec. 30, 2018.

Thank you for helping end hunger, supporting Rotary

• The Southeast Alaska Food Bank would like to thank everyone who so selflessly helped make 2018 a tremendous year for us and for those we serve.

Feeding America estimates that one in seven Americans is at risk of going hungry. With Juneau’s population, that’s approximately 4,500 of your friends, neighbors, coworkers and even family members who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

We distribute food six days a week to our member agencies and the individuals we serve. We are on pace to distribute a record-breaking 450,000 pounds of food in Juneau and Southeast Alaska in 2018.

We live in a very caring community — this is very apparent every time someone chooses to make a donation to help our cause.

We’d like to thank Fred Meyer, Super Bear Supermarket IGA, Foodland IGA, Safeway, Costco, the E&M Oriental Store, Northern Sales, SEAK Distributors, Alaska Marine Lines, Samson Tug and Barge, Subway, Rainbow Foods, the Juneau School District and Breeze In for donating hundreds of thousands of pounds of food each year.

We’d also like to thank the student councils at Auke Bay Elementary, Floyd Dryden Middle School and Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School; National Guard, United States Coast Guard, Rainbow Girls, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Rotary, National Association of Letter Carriers, Pavitt Health and Fitness, American Legion, Eagles, Moose Lodge, Lions Club, Grateful Dogs of Juneau, State of Alaska, Feds Feed Families, City and Borough of Juneau, Alaskan Brewing Co. and Juneau Radio Center for conducting food drives throughout the year.

We’d like to thank the Juneau Empire and KTOO for spreading the word about our work.

We’d like to thank Gastineau Human Services for providing us with help at the food bank.

We’d like to thank everyone who supports us financially through monetary donations, whether it’s directly, or indirectly through United Way, AlaskaUSA’s Cash for Cans, Mendenhall Auto’s Gingerbread House Invitational, the Holiday Village or any number of other fundraising efforts, such as the one AEL&P recently held.

Finally, we’d like to thank the countless dedicated volunteers who donate thousands of hours each year to conduct food drives, do food pickups and stock shelves.

Because of all this, we can continue towards our goal of providing healthy food to our community members needing help providing for themselves and their families.

Thank you again. Together, we can end hunger in Southeast Alaska.

Darren Adams

Manager, Southeast Alaska Food Bank

• The Juneau-Gastineau Rotary Club held our annual auction last month and because of the generosity of many Juneau businesses, our club was able to raise $20,430.

Monies generated from this event benefit Rotary International’s world efforts toward eradicating polio from the planet with matching funds from the Gates Foundation and promoting peace, providing clean water, assisting women and children, supporting education and growing local economies. Locally in Juneau, funds will support various youth programs such as Project Playground, youth activities, youth leadership training, international student exchange and academic scholarships.
