{"id":10375,"date":"2016-04-03T08:01:36","date_gmt":"2016-04-03T15:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/tribe-can-seek-potentially-millions-from-urban-outfitters\/"},"modified":"2016-04-03T08:01:36","modified_gmt":"2016-04-03T15:01:36","slug":"tribe-can-seek-potentially-millions-from-urban-outfitters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/tribe-can-seek-potentially-millions-from-urban-outfitters\/","title":{"rendered":"Tribe can seek potentially millions from Urban Outfitters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. \u2014<\/strong> A federal judge has cleared the way for the Navajo Nation to seek potentially millions of dollars in its 2012 lawsuit over Urban Outfitters\u2019 use of the \u201cNavajo\u201d name.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Bruce Black ruled Thursday that the tribe didn\u2019t unreasonably delay a trademark infringement challenge against the clothing retailer.<\/p>\n<p>Urban Outfitters Inc. had claimed the tribe knew or should have known the name had been used in clothing, jewelry and other merchandise for years and delayed filing a lawsuit, prejudicing the company.<\/p>\n<p>Black says there\u2019s no evidence anyone legally associated with the tribe knew the retailer used its trademarks until June 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling applies to Urban Outfitters and one of its subsidiaries, Anthropologie.
