14th annual Holiday Cat and Dog Food Drive starts Dec. 4<\/strong><\/p>\n From Monday, Dec. 4, thru Sunday, Dec. 10, the Grateful Dogs of Juneau is collecting donations of dog and cat food. The pet food is being collected for distribution to clients of Juneau food banks and food pantries who have pets that are in need of wholesome food during this holiday season and throughout the year. Pet food is also distributed to animal rescue organizations in northern Southeast to the extent that supplies permit.<\/p>\n Collection boxes for pet food will be available at PETCO in the Nugget Mall and Juneau Animal Rescue on Glacier Highway near Fred Meyer. Donations may be made during normal business hours at all locations.<\/p>\n Last year’s pet food drive collected almost 1,900 pounds of dog and cat food.<\/p>\n For more information visit www.gratefuldogsofjuneau.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n Parks & Rec Candy Cane Hunt returns for the holidays<\/strong><\/p>\n Explore Juneau, support local businesses, and win prizes this holiday season in CBJ Parks and Recreation’s Candy Cane Hunt. Print or download a Candy Cane Tracker from the parks and recreation website, then head out and around town Dec. 1–17 to find the printed candy cane numbers in the store windows. The more candy canes found, the more chances to win prizes.<\/p>\n This activity is open to both kids and adults. To enter the prize drawing, submit the Candy Cane Tracker by noon on Dec. 18. A total of 20 candy cane numbers earn one ticket in the drawing, 35 numbers earns two tickets and finding every single number earns five tickets.<\/p>\n Parks & Recreation will hold the prize drawing on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and winners will be notified by phone\/email and announced on Juneau Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page.<\/p>\n If you don’t have access to a printer, email parks.rec@juneau.gov with your mailing address and how many trackers you need. Among events it’s involved with are Wearable Arts, Áak’w Rock Indigenous Music Festival, Art Glasses workshops, Fresh Air Markets and Stress-Free Art Nights.<\/p>\n Membership includes early access to special event tickets, discounts on tickets to JAHC events, 10% off on purchases in the Lobby Shop and Centennial Hall’s Davis Gallery, free notary services, and monthly newsletters. People who join or renew their JAHC membership between Dec. 1-31 will also receive a special JAHC Season 50 commemorative gift.<\/p>\n
