Veterans internships being offered for work in Tongass National Forest<\/strong><\/p>\n

In partnership with the Mt. Adams Institute, the Tongass National Forest is hiring VetsWork AmeriCorps interns for the following positions: recreation technician, interpretive guide, and botany technician.<\/p>\n

The internship is 45 weeks from March 4, 2024 – Jan. 10, 2025.<\/p>\n

• $22,500 living allowance – paid monthly over the 10 ½ -month term of service ($500 weekly, before taxes)<\/p>\n

CBJ seeking information on office space available for lease<\/strong><\/p>\n

The City and Borough of Juneau is seeking office space to provide its residents, visitors and employees with better access to municipal departments and services and has issued a Request for Information to gauge the interest and availability of space available for lease.<\/p>\n

CBJ currently rents office space at four downtown properties. As the current leases approach expiration, CBJ is seeking to consolidate its footprint.<\/p>\n

Potential vendors — firms, realtors, contractors, developers, building owners, or lessors — are invited to join an informational meeting via teleconference at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8. To join, call (907) 713-2140 with ID 748914. Vendors interested in submitting proposals are asked to contact CBJ Purchasing at purchasing@juneau.gov at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled meeting to provide notice of participation and submit any questions.<\/p>\n

Proposed office space must conform to one of the following scenarios:<\/p>\n

Scenario 1: All CBJ downtown employees (164 staff) and the Assembly Chambers relocate into proposed office space to include Assembly Chambers. Proposed office space must have a minimum of 46,000 gross square feet of office space and on-site parking for visitors.<\/p>\n

Scenario 2: Majority of CBJ downtown employees (99 staff) relocate. Employees and Assembly Chambers remain in City Hall building. Proposed office space must have a minimum of 33,625 gross square feet of office space and on-site parking for visitors.<\/p>\n

Scenario 3: CBJ employees currently occupying offices in the Marine View building (50 staff) relocate. Proposed office space must have a minimum of 17,000 gross square feet of office space and on-site parking for visitors.<\/p>\n

Other requirements, including ADA-compliant restrooms and elevator access to upper floors, are included in the full RFI.<\/p>\n

Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Jan. 15<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Black Awareness Association of Juneau is hosting a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. The theme is “Shifting the Cultural Climate — It Starts with Me.” The celebration has not taken place the past four years due to COVID-19. Local legislative delegation hosting Juneau Town Hall on Jan. 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

State Sen. Jesse Kiehl, Rep. Sara Hannan and Rep. Andi Story of Juneau are inviting residents to a pre-legislative session town hall from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library at 3025 Diamond Pk. Lp.<\/p>\n

The local delegation will discuss the upcoming session and answer questions. There will be food at the library.<\/p>\n

Recycle holiday tree for free Jan. 26-27<\/strong><\/p>\n

CBJ is partnering with Juneau Composts! to accept holiday trees to be recycled for free from Jan. 26-27. Drop off trees on between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at CBJ’s Household Hazardous Waste facility, at 5600 Tonsgard Court. Upon entering the facility, take an immediate right and follow the Recycling\/HHW signs.<\/p>\n

Please note trees must be free of decorations or other foreign materials as they will be chipped and used for composting. Wreaths or other “tree-like” decorations will not be accepted.<\/p>\n

JDHS Cheer will be picking up trees to be recycled. Contact Coach Nore by text at (907) 723-6580 to sign up. A $10 donation is requested.<\/p>\n

Three Juneau residents make President’s List at Southern New Hampshire University<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucas Stankee, Taylor Tapia and Jacob Hinckle of Juneau were named to the Fall 2023 President’s List at Southern New Hampshire University. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired eight-week terms grouped in fall, winter\/spring, and summer. SNHU is a private, nonprofit institution that claims to have 225,000 learners worldwide — mostly online — offering about 200 accredited undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs online and on its 300-acre campus in Manchester, New Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Juneau resident named to Dean’s List at Lebanon Valley College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anna Dale of Juneau is one of nearly 900 Lebanon Valley College students named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2023 semester. Dean’s list students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0. Dale is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing and is a graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé.
