{"id":11256,"date":"2017-04-05T08:01:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T15:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/jdhs-track-team-experiments-in-new-events\/"},"modified":"2017-04-05T08:01:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-05T15:01:00","slug":"jdhs-track-team-experiments-in-new-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/sports\/jdhs-track-team-experiments-in-new-events\/","title":{"rendered":"JDHS track team experiments in new events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eight runners on the Juneau-Douglas High School Track and Field made history Saturday at the Don Holder Relays in Yakima, Washington.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in school history, JDHS runners competed in the 2-kilometer steeplechase and distance medley relay (1200-400-800-1600 meters) events.<\/p>\n<p>The boys distance medley relay team of Arne Ellefson-Carnes, Tim McKenna, Shadrach Stitz and John White finished in 13 minutes, 1 seconds for eighth place (of 10).<\/p>\n<p>The JDHS girls placed fifth of six teams. Elizabeth Ramseth, Ashleigh Neal, Gretchen Neal and Anna Iverson clocked in at 14 minutes, 44 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2-kilometer steeplechase, Ellefson-Carnes (11th) bested Stitz (15th) and White (24th) with a 7 minutes, 20 seconds finish. Ellefson-Carnes tied with Cody Weldon (shot put) for the highest individual placing in a varsity event at the meet. Weldon chucked the 12 pound weight just over 40 feet.
