The Crimson Bears girls rallied late by scoring 14 fourth-quarter points to defeat visiting Sitka on Monday during the first round of the Capital City Classic.<\/p>\n
Juneau-Douglas High School trailed 26-20 after three quarters before the late surge that saw Caitlyn Pusich score six points in the fourth, with four by Kallen Hoover, to defeat the Wolves 34-31 on JDHS\u2019s home court.<\/p>\n
Pusich finished with a team-high eight points in a balanced scoring effort. Erica Hurtte had seven, followed by six from Hoover, four each by Georgia Robinson and Tona Fogg, three from Cristina Arehart and two from Alyxn Bohulano.<\/p>\n
Hailey Denkinger led Sitka with nine points, followed by Alexandra Kirby with eight, MacKenzie Campbell with seven, Zosha Krupa with four and Tatum Bayne with three.<\/p>\n
The Wolves jumped out to an early 16-7 lead after the first quarter and held a 24-14 lead at the half. The Wolves only managed to score two points in the third quarter, allowing JDHS to claw back to a 26-20 deficit. Sitka only mustered a single field goal in the fourth while shooting 3-of-7 from the free throw line.<\/p>\n
The JDHS girls play again today at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
\nCHUGIAK 54, KENAI 24<\/strong><\/p>\n Chugiak\u2019s A\u2019yanna Tippins led all scorers with 16 points in a 54-24 win over the Kenai Kardinals on Monday at JDHS.<\/p>\n Randi McMullen added 13 in the victory, followed by Hannah Russell with nine, Taylor Williams with eight, and Nicole Pinckney with six.<\/p>\n Kenai\u2019s Lara Creighton led her team with 14 points.
