1939 \u2014 The Green Bay Packers register the first shutout in an NFL championship game by beating the New York Giants 27-0.<\/p>\n

1961 \u2014 Billy Cannon of the Houston Oilers rushes for 216 yards, catches five passes for 114 yards and scores five touchdowns in a 48-21 victory over the New York Titans. Cannon finishes with 373 combined yards.<\/p>\n

1982 \u2014 Michael Dokes knocks out Mike Weaver in the first round to capture the WBA heavyweight title in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

1986 \u2014 Atlanta\u2019s Dominique Wilkins scores 57 points to lead the Hawks to a 123-95 rout of the Chicago Bulls.<\/p>\n

1994 \u2014 Art Monk sets an NFL record for consecutive games with a reception on New York\u2019s first play in the Jets\u2019 18-7 loss to the Detroit Lions. Monk\u2019s 5-yard catch gives him 178 consecutive games with a reception, breaking Steve Largent\u2019s NFL mark.<\/p>\n

1994 \u2014 Rashaan Salaam of Colorado, who led the nation in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards, wins the Heisman Trophy over runner-up Ki-Jana Carter of Penn State.<\/p>\n

1999 \u2014 Laffit Pincay Jr. guides Irish Nip to a two-length victory in the sixth race at Hollywood Park for his 8,834th victory, breaking Bill Shoemaker\u2019s 29-year-old record and making him the world\u2019s winningest jockey.<\/p>\n

2004 \u2014 Sprinter Michelle Collins is suspended for eight years for a doping violation linked to the BALCO scandal and forfeits results that include 2003 indoor world and U.S. titles in the 200 meters.<\/p>\n

2006 \u2014 LaDainian Tomlinson breaks Shaun Alexander\u2019s NFL single-season touchdown record of 28 when he scores three times in the San Diego Chargers\u2019 48-20 victory over the Denver Broncos. Tomlinson has 26 TDs rushing and three receiving.<\/p>\n

2008 \u2014 Carmelo Anthony matches George Gervin\u2019s NBA record for points in a quarter with 33 in the third and finishes with a season-high 45 points in Denver\u2019s 116-105 victory over Minnesota.<\/p>\n

2009 \u2014 Steve Sullivan scores the winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout to lift Nashville over Columbus 4-3. Sullivan beats goalie Mathieu Garon with a wrist shot under the goalie\u2019s pad ending Garon\u2019s NHL-record streak of consecutive shootout victories at 13.<\/p>\n

2010 \u2014 George Karl earns his 1,000th coaching victory, the seventh coach in NBA history, as Al Harrington scores a season-high 31 points and Nene adds 26 to help the Denver Nuggets hold off the Toronto Raptors 123-116.<\/p>\n

2011 \u2014 Robert Griffin III beats out preseason favorite Andrew Luck for the Heisman Trophy, dazzling voters with his ability to throw, run and lead Big 12 doormat Baylor into the national rankings. The junior quarterback known as RG3 became the first Heisman winner from Baylor.
