If your New Year\u2019s Eve celebration involves going out and partying, Juneau Police Department reminds you to plan ahead for a designated driver or take a Safe Ride Home.<\/p>\n
Safe Ride Home is a free program offered by The Alcohol Retailers of Juneau & Lynn Canal Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant & Retailers Association. You can request a cab from a participating location and look for the green flashing lights.<\/p>\n
On an average Saturday night, JPD has five to seven patrol officers on duty. For New Year\u2019s Eve, JPD said in a news release it will have 16 officers on duty in the evening. Four of those officers are assigned to investigate drivers who might be intoxicated. <\/p>\n
According to the JPD release, the safe use of concussive fireworks will be legal from 10 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Eve to 1 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Day. Using concussive fireworks outside of this time period, and south of Cohen Drive, is prohibited. On Monday, Dec. 26, two residents were cited for using concussive fireworks during a prohibited period. Lt. David Campbell said concussive fireworks make a loud noise, like a \u201cboom,\u201d versus sparklers, which do not make a loud noise.<\/p>\n
Participating locations for the Safe Ride Home program are Alaska Cache Liquor, Triangle Club Bar, Lucky Lady Pub, Squirez Bar, The Island Pub, Duck Creek Market, Hangar on the Wharf, McGivney\u2019s Sports Bar & Grill, McGivney\u2019s Downtown, Alaska Hotel & Bar, Juneau Moose Lodge 700, Viking Lounge & Billiards, Imperial Bar, Rendezvous Lounge and Louie\u2019s Douglas Inn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
