{"id":12726,"date":"2017-01-18T09:03:27","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T17:03:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/alaska-joins-12-other-states-suing-to-block-obama-coal-mining-rule\/"},"modified":"2017-01-18T09:03:27","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T17:03:27","slug":"alaska-joins-12-other-states-suing-to-block-obama-coal-mining-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/alaska-joins-12-other-states-suing-to-block-obama-coal-mining-rule\/","title":{"rendered":"Alaska joins 12 other states suing to block Obama coal mining rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AUSTIN, Texas \u2014<\/strong> Texas and 12 other states have asked a federal court to block final rules from President Barack Obama\u2019s administration designed to reduce coal mining\u2019s impact on streams.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton petitioned a Washington-based appeals court for an injunction Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton said in a statement that the \u201cStream Protection Rule\u201d imposes \u201cmandatory, one-size-fits-all\u201d regulations that violate states\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Texas are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem filed a separate lawsuit challenging the rule there.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Interior Department argues that the rule will protect 6,000 miles of streams by preventing coal mining debris from being dumped into nearby waters.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have vowed to overturn it under President-elect Donald Trump.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Texas and 12 other states have asked a federal court to block final rules from President Barack Obama\u2019s administration designed to reduce coal mining\u2019s impact on streams.
