Police say $14,000 in cash went missing from the Princess Cruise Line office in downtown Juneau on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Juneau Police Department spokeswoman Erann Kalwara said the department is not releasing many details surrounding the burglary yet because the case is still active. What is known is that the building in the 700 block of Franklin Street was burglarized, but not by forced entry. Princess Cruise Lines was not the victim of the burglary, instead it was another unnamed business venture inside, Kalwara said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears that the money was there in the evening and then gone in the morning,\u201d Kalwara said.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported as a result of the burglary and police are still working to obtain surveillance footage of the event. The Empire reached out the Princess Cruise Line\u2019s office for comment on the burglary Friday, but a response was not received by the end of the business day.<\/p>\n
Thursday\u2019s reported incident is the second costly burglary in downtown Juneau this month.<\/p>\n
On May 8, police say a 71-year-old business owner of Artifact, a jewelry and carving store on Front street, reported $6,800 in merchandise missing from his store. The owner declined to comment on the record about the theft, but told police he left his business locked that day from 1-3 p.m., and in that time someone broke the front door and took several pieces of jewelry and carvings.<\/p>\n
The business owner and JPD have not located any of the stolen property or developed suspects in this case. Other arts businesses in the area are on the lookout for suspicious items in case the stolen items are brought to them for purchase, according to one retail manager on the block, Tammie Hanson with the Sealaska Heritage Institute store.<\/p>\n
Juneau\u2019s crime prevention group highlighted the Front Street burglary as its crime of the week and is asking community members to come forward with tips that could help police. Tips can be sent anonymously to the Crime Line Web site, juneaucrimeline.com, or people can call JPD\u2019s non-emergency line, 586-0600. Tipsters can be rewarded up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.<\/p>\n
