Veronica Bunnies has been an artist and a perfectionist as long as she can remember. She taught herself to embroider as the ideal way to practice the art of perfection. Alaska State Writer Laureate Saankaláxt’ Ernestine Hayes will discuss portions of her writing that examines our society’s histories and heroes from a deeper perspective. Hayes is the author of “The Tao of Raven” and “Blonde Indian” and teaches writing at the University of Alaska Southeast. The Alaska State Museum will be open free of charge from 4:30-7 p.m., and is showing the summer exhibit Decolonizing Alaska, which features work by 30 artists on themes of resilience, adaptation, and cultural survival in response to dominant forces such as colonization and climate change.<\/p>\n

Barnaby Brewing will be featuring the works from Sitka artist, Shelley Gillaspey of Alaska Beach Creations. Gillaspey creates one-of-a-kind driftwood art pieces that will compliment any space. BBC will be releasing Déjà Brew, a collaboration brew with Amalga Distillery utilizing the spent botanicals from their first batch of gin.<\/p>\n

Samuel Sheakley will be showcasing his silver and copper Tlingit engraved jewelry, including bracelets, earrings, rings, and pendants. He will also be providing demonstrations of the engraving process. Rhonda Butler will be offering healing salves, moccasins, and cedar work. SHI will also offer free admission to its current exhibit, “Alaska Native Masks: Art &Ceremony,” and to the clan house, where visitors can view four, newly installed panels describing the history and construction of traditional clan houses. All are welcome. <\/p>\n

Amalga Distillery hosts Marms &Meeks for a pop-up gallery exhibit Aug. 4, 5, and 6 With designs merging the spheres of art and science, and printed on all recycled materials, you will find everything from cards to nautical chart prints to bags and koozies, all with Southeast Alaska flair. A new product will be debuted, as well as several new chart prints. Check out the show and grab a sumptuous cocktail with lots of local flavor – plus Bloody Mary’s on Sunday.<\/p>\n
