{"id":13626,"date":"2017-02-09T17:22:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T01:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/driver-charged-in-bicycle-hit-and-run-crash\/"},"modified":"2017-02-09T17:22:22","modified_gmt":"2017-02-10T01:22:22","slug":"driver-charged-in-bicycle-hit-and-run-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/driver-charged-in-bicycle-hit-and-run-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver charged in bicycle hit-and-run crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FAIRBANKS &mdash;A 40-year-old Fairbanks driver suspected of crashing into a boy on a bicycle and not stopping has been formally charged.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors charged Howard Martinez with leaving the scene of an injury accident without providing assistance, a felony.<\/p>\n<p>He&rsquo;s also charged with a misdemeanor count of leaving an accident scene.<\/p>\n<p>Police took a call on the crash just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>They said a boy riding a small bicycle to Ryan Middle School was struck by a sport utility vehicle on 15th Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the SUV dragged the bike at least six blocks to 21st Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The boy was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Police describe his injuries as &ldquo;non-life-threatening.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested Martinez later Tuesday. Online court documents do not list his attorney.
