Donny Olson of Golovin.<\/p>\n<p>The move leaves four Democrats in the minority.<\/p>\n<p>In a release, Olson says he\u2019s honored to join the majority and \u201clend a strong voice for rural Alaskans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Sen. Lyman Hoffman of Bethel is also part of the majority, which is otherwise comprised of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Berta Gardner, in a release, expressed disappointment with Olson\u2019s departure but acknowledged \u201cevery legislator\u2019s responsibility to make decisions which they feel are in the best interest of their district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gardner says the majority will benefit from the influence of a member \u201cwith strong progressive values and interests,\u201d including support for public education and Medicaid expansion.<\/p>\n<p>A Senate majority spokeswoman says the move won\u2019t impact minority membership on committees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JUNEAU &#8211; The Republican-led Senate majority has added another member: Democratic Sen.
