Owner Kyia Bouchard said she is $30,000 behind on rent and having trouble attracting visitors who are willing to pay $10 to view thousands of dog mushing artifacts, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what it is. I just know that they are not coming into the museum,\u201d said Bouchard, who is a dog musher.<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard moved the museum to Fairbanks from Dawson City, Yukon, after not having much success with the business in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t doing well there,\u201d Bouchard said. \u201cDawson is small.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard had hoped to capitalize on Fairbanks\u2019 summer tourist season, but she says she\u2019s far short of the 100 visitors per day she needs to cover the bills. The museum sees an average of around 40 visitors each day.<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard said the museum may have to close if business doesn\u2019t improve by the end of the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody throw me a life preserver or else I am going down,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Bouchard says she\u2019s seeking corporate sponsors to boost visitation.<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard\u2019s dog mushing collection includes items from around the world and is valued at about $150,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody that does come and do the experience is overwhelmed,\u201d Bouchard said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAIRBANKS \u2014 A Fairbanks museum dedicated to Alaska\u2019s state sport is struggling to attract visitors and might close if <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/business\/\">business<\/a> doesn\u2019t pick up.
