{"id":15317,"date":"2016-09-13T01:32:41","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T08:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/german-injured-falling-300-feet-down-alaska-glacier\/"},"modified":"2016-09-13T01:32:41","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T08:32:41","slug":"german-injured-falling-300-feet-down-alaska-glacier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/german-injured-falling-300-feet-down-alaska-glacier\/","title":{"rendered":"German injured falling 300 feet down Alaska glacier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>VALDEZ<\/strong> \u2014 A 42-year-man from Germany is being treated at an Anchorage hospital after falling nearly 300 feet down a glacier.<\/p>\n<p>The accident happened Saturday at Worthington Glacier near Valdez.<\/p>\n<p>City officials say in a statement the man was hiking the left ridge trail above the glacier when he slid and fell between 250 and 300 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say he suffered multiple injuries, including leg and skull fractures.<\/p>\n<p>He appeared to have been traveling alone when the accident happened. Other hikers heard him scream and called the Valdez Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>Two physicians in the group stabilized him until the fire department\u2019s backcountry search and rescue team arrived. A group of 18 people helped carry him a mile and a half down the rocky side of the glacier.
