{"id":1597,"date":"2018-08-01T11:12:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-01T18:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/softball-tourney-to-raise-funds-for-local-family\/"},"modified":"2018-08-01T11:12:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-01T18:12:00","slug":"softball-tourney-to-raise-funds-for-local-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/softball-tourney-to-raise-funds-for-local-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Softball tourney to raise funds for local family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Softball tourney to raise funds for local family<\/p>\n<p>The 22nd annual Coed Softball Benefit Tournament is taking place next weekend and will be raising funds for Steve and Amber Dyer and the Gastineau Humane Society.<\/p>\n<p>Tournament organizer Michele Stuart Morgan, who started the tournament 22 years ago, said the tournament gets behind different causes every year.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We always try to find someone in our community to help and being that Amber played softball, we really wanted to do something,&rdquo; Morgan said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/help-baby-lucy-battle-neuroblastoma\" target=\"_blank\">GoFundMe page<\/a>, the couple&rsquo;s doctor found a &ldquo;concerning mass&rdquo; in their daughter Lucy&rsquo;s abdomen that would later prove to be a tumor. Once admitted to Seattle Children&rsquo;s Hospital, doctors diagnosed her with a neuroblastoma tumor. The GoFundMe campaign set up for Lucy has raised over $9,000 as of Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday, there are 90 players signed up to play in the tournament.
