Perseverance Theatre, the University of Alaska Southeast, and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center will present \u201cA Pain in the Crevasse: Short Plays on Climate Change\u201d at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. This is a free event.<\/p>\n
\u201cA Pain in the Crevasse\u201d is Juneau\u2019s contribution to Climate Change Theatre Action. CCTA is a worldwide event bringing playwrights from all parts of the world to write short plays specifically on the topic of climate change. Perseverance Theatre and UAS have selected six of these short plays for \u201cA Pain in the Crevasse.\u201d Playwrights include Elyne Quan, Deborah Zoe Laufer, Andrea Lepcio, Neil LaBute, Arthur Kopit, Colleen Murphy, and August Murphy-King.<\/p>\n
Audiences should come dressed for the weather, as the short play readings will be outside at the pavilion at the Mendenhall Glacier. Blankets and hot beverages will be available for attendees. A post-show panel discussion with glaciologists and Juneau climate-change experts will be held inside the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.<\/p>\n
CCTA aims to raise awareness and foster discussion about climate change worldwide during November and December through the medium of performance. Initiated by NoPassport, The Arctic Cycle, and Theatre Without Borders, Climate Change Theatre Action supports the United Nations 2015 Paris Climate Conference, which takes place Nov. 30 \u2013 Dec. 11.
