JUNEAU \u2014 U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan could have a speaking role at next week\u2019s national Republican convention.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for Alaska\u2019s junior senator on Wednesday said Sullivan has been in contact with event organizers but a potential speaking role hasn\u2019t yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n
Sullivan is the lone member of Alaska\u2019s all Republican congressional delegation planning to attend the convention in his native Ohio. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Don Young both plan to be in Alaska during the event.<\/p>\n
Sullivan was an assistant Secretary of State under President George W. Bush.<\/p>\n
He is a former state attorney general and Natural Resources commissioner who has been vocal about pushing back against federal overreach. He\u2019s also a Marine Corps reservist and has been outspoken on veterans\u2019 issues.<\/p>\n
He was elected to the Senate in 2014 after defeating Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.<\/p>\n
