Come into the clan house, Shuk\u00e1 H\u00edt, this First Friday to listen to an original audio play of Am\u2019ala, the Strong Man, depicted on the clan house front made by Tsimshian artists David A. and David R. Boxley. The audio features Catrina Mitchell, Ishmael Hope, Alfie Price, and Frank Katasse. In the Sealaska Heritage Store, register to win your own piece of Boxley art \u2013 a limited edition, signed print by David R. Boxley; entrants need not be present to win. Free First Friday admission from 4:30 to 8 includes access to the Nathan Jackson Gallery and artist demonstrations by award-winning Tlingit and Haida weaver Della Cheney and Tlingit jeweler Renee Culp. This will be the last First Friday for visitors to view the Juried Art Show & Competition free of charge; the exhibit closes Sept. 30. Known for his inlay of stones into both fossil walrus and woolly mammoth ivory, Jim will be saying \u201cThanks Juneau\u201d\u201d by offering special deals on new as well as old work during his month-long exit. Works on display will include a painted silk installation, a hand-embellished print edition, and mixed media pieces. Since earning her BFA in Fibers from Savannah College of Art and Design, Emma has spent several years on staff at Touchstone Center for Crafts and was a teaching artist for various organizations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her artwork has been exhibited in several states and are a part of SCAD\u2019s permanent collection. \u201cThe beauty of the world, and the delicate balance between man and nature are the driving forces behind my work. I constantly observe all exquisite aspects of nature, through the small lens of a single hike or the bigger world picture; my creative senses are stirred by a gust of wind or the amazing textures of flora and fauna,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n Featured artist:<\/strong><\/p>\n Arnie Weimer<\/strong><\/p>\n Annie Kaill\u2019s<\/p>\n 244 Front St.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7 p.m.<\/p>\n Arnie Weimer is a well-known Juneau artist who works in many mediums with heavy influence from traditional Native designs. His art that Annie Kaill\u2019s carries year-round includes embossed prints on paper, embossed prints on copper, and watercolor prints. Arnie also works in jewelry and sculpture. Fifteen percent of proceeds will go toward protecting endangered species. Frames are handbuilt by Eric and Kaila Buerger.<\/p>\n Inspired: Plein Rein Painters<\/strong><\/p>\n Coppa<\/p>\n 917 Glacier Ave. #102<\/p>\n Reception: 4-6 p.m.<\/p>\n September\u2019s featured art show at Coppa is titled \u201cInspired\u2019 and is a collection of new works by Juneau\u2019s Plein Rein Painters. The Plein Rein Painters is a group of some 40 artists who meet every Saturday and venture into the landscape to capture the moment on canvas. This show includes many land and seascapes conceived and\/or perhaps painted in plein air at the group\u2019s yearly retreats at the Shrine of St. Therese. Many of Juneau\u2019s favorite \u2018out the road\u2019 images are featured in these fine works of art by some of Juneau\u2019s best artists. Showing artists include Patti Hutchens Jouppi, Jay Crondahl, Christine Crooks, Puanani Maunu, Jim Heumann, Timi Johnson, Jane Lindsey, Teri Robus, Nancy Brown, Elisabeth Saya, Barbara Shepherd, and Steve Winker.
