{"id":17541,"date":"2016-05-24T00:48:43","date_gmt":"2016-05-24T07:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/ex-arizona-lawmakers-murder-trial-set-for-august\/"},"modified":"2016-05-24T00:48:43","modified_gmt":"2016-05-24T07:48:43","slug":"ex-arizona-lawmakers-murder-trial-set-for-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/ex-arizona-lawmakers-murder-trial-set-for-august\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Arizona lawmaker&#8217;s murder trial set for August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 53-year-old man <a href=\"http:\/\/juneauempire.com\/local\/2016-05-17\/widow-pleads-accused-murderer-court-why\" target=\"_blank\">accused of murdering a downtown Juneau jeweler<\/a> during a hunting trip in Excursion Inlet entered a not guilty plea during an arraignment Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Ex-Arizona lawmaker Mark De Simone appeared in Juneau Superior Court after a <a href=\"http:\/\/juneauempire.com\/local\/2016-05-20\/juneau-grand-jury-indicts-ex-arizona-lawmaker-murder-mark-de-simone-53-faces-five\" target=\"_blank\">Juneau grand jury indicted him on Friday<\/a>. His trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 22.<\/p>\n<p>De Simone was indicted on first- and second degree murder charges in connection to the May 15 fatal shooting of 34-year-old Duilio Antonio \u201cTony\u201d Rosales. De Simone is also facing lesser manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges.<\/p>\n<p>De Simone reportedly confessed to members of the hunting party that he killed Rosales with a .41 magnum revolver, although he did not offer a motive, according to an affidavit. A Juneau-based Alaska State Trooper responded to the scene and found Rosales under a picnic table, with two gunshot wounds to the back of his head, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n<p>Juneau District Court Judge Keith Levy earlier ordered De Simone to be held at Lemon Creek Correctional Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.<\/p>\n<p>De Simone <a href=\"http:\/\/juneauempire.com\/local\/2016-05-17\/headline\" target=\"_blank\">resigned from a career in Arizona politics in 2008<\/a> after allegations of spousal abuse.
