On Aug. 7, 1986, a newly proposed state regulation that would allow school districts to lay off tenured teachers if they have exhausted all options to bridge their deficit was waiting to be approved. The regulation was suggested after numerous school districts stated that they were unable to meet their new budget cutoffs despite removing extraneous items from their budget plans.<\/p>\n
As Alaska\u2019s dwindling oil revenue ate away at the state\u2019s budget, a few runaway bears were eating their way through neighborhood trash cans at an alarming rate. In the latest incident, one bear snuck into a family\u2019s house, causing so much damage that even the Juneau Police Department found it drastic. An estimated four bears in all were suspected of being responsible for the dumpster diving.<\/p>\n
