The Juneau-Douglas High School softball team sure knows how to end a home stand.<\/p>\n
The Crimson Bears (6-4) recovered from a four-run deficit in the first inning Saturday afternoon to defeat Ketchikan 6-5 at Melvin Park.<\/p>\n
JDHS grabbed their first lead of the game in the fifth inning, but saw Kayhi\u2019s Lianne Seludo score in the top half of the seventh to tie the game. The Crimson Bears\u2019 2-3-4 hitters of Maddie Johnson, Abby Meiners and Skylar Hickok were then given the opportunity to win the game \u2014 and did just that.<\/p>\n
Johnson and Hickok both singled, and Morgan Balovich hit a shot to center field to score Johnson.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey really hit some balls when we needed them hit,\u201d JDHS coach Lexie Razor said. \u201cThey never give up. This team works together and nothing\u2019s going to hold them back. They just do a great job of always fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elisa Fabrello and Mia Loree pitched for JDHS in the win. Brittany Slick and Taylor Moody pitched for Ketchikan and together gave up only eight hits.<\/p>\n
In the first varsity game of the day against Sitka, the Crimson Bears lost 11-7. Johnson collected 3 RBIs for JDHS in the loss. JDHS fell behind early and was held to one run in the final three innings. Sitka\u2019s Miah Dumag pitched a complete game for the Wolves while Loree and Fabrello again shared the circle for the Crimson Bears.<\/p>\n
Sitka went 1-3 in Juneau, Ketchikan was 0-4 and Juneau-Douglas was 3-1. The Crimson Bears face the Falcons for three games next weekend.<\/p>\n
