{"id":19647,"date":"2015-10-09T18:53:34","date_gmt":"2015-10-10T01:53:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/trio-of-suicides-leaves-alaska-village-in-grief\/"},"modified":"2015-10-09T18:53:34","modified_gmt":"2015-10-10T01:53:34","slug":"trio-of-suicides-leaves-alaska-village-in-grief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/trio-of-suicides-leaves-alaska-village-in-grief\/","title":{"rendered":"Trio of suicides leaves Alaska village in grief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANCHORAGE \u2014<\/strong> An entire village on Alaska\u2019s western coast is grieving the back-to-back suicides of three young adults \u2014with each subsequent death influenced by the preceding one.<\/p>\n<p>A regional tribal health organization is sending a suicide-response team to Hooper Bay next week in what essentially will be a community debriefing.<\/p>\n<p>But in a region with disproportionately steep rates of suicide, responders already traveled to the Yup\u2019ik Eskimo community of nearly 1,200 this week, saying it\u2019s crucial to offer support and keep an eye out for any others who may be vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>The first death occurred Sept. 24 with the suicide of a 26-year-old man. Alaska State Troopers say the second death occurred Oct. 2 and involved a 24-year-old man who was despondent over his friend\u2019s suicide.
