It’s become a Fourth of July tradition for the Juneau Police Department to have an increased number of officers working, and this year is no different.

A news release from the Juneau Police Department urges people to celebrate the holiday safely, and states that there will be extra staff working from the evening of July 3 until the morning of July 5. Those planning on driving between parties or parades should not be drinking, and should have everyone in the vehicle wear seat belts.

With parades taking place downtown in both Juneau and Douglas, drivers should also avoid no-parking zones along the parade routes. Police also advise pedestrians to stay alert and to cross roadways at designated crosswalks.

People can shoot off fireworks, but are advised to consult the City and Borough of Juneau’s guidelines for firework use, which are available on the city’s website.
