Each week throughout the summer, the Juneau Public Libraries, in collaboration with the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries and local businesses, award young readers various prizes for writing book reviews about their favorite summer reads. During the sixth week of Summer Reading Program activity, the Juneau Public Libraries received 61 different book reviews from 31 different young readers under the age of 18. Here is a summary of the top book reviews from this week\u2019s winners:<\/p>\n

From the Downtown Library:<\/p>\n

\u201cLife of Pi\u201d by Yann Martel: \u201cMy favorite parts were all the back stories in the beginning of the novel and I thought they were very fascinating\u201d \u2014 Sahil Bathija, age 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cFahrenheit 451\u201d by Ray Bradbury: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is when Montag accidentally kills Beatty and has to run away from the spot to protect himself.\u201d \u2014 Viren Punjabi, age 14.<\/p>\n

\u201c Up and Down the Scratchy Mountains\u201d by Laurel Snyder: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is that one side of a river went up the mountain and the other side went down and that a huge man got stuck in a huge soup pot.\u201d \u2014 Maisy Messing, age 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Hidden Kingdom\u201d by Tui T. Sutherland: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is when Glory becomes queen of the Rainwings.\u201d \u2014 Krishna Bathija, age 11.<\/p>\n

From the Douglas Library:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Fantastic Mr. Fox\u201d by Roald Dahl: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is when Mr. Fox gets his tail shot off.\u201d \u2014 Emily Norris, age 11<\/p>\n

\u201cSummer\u201d by Bobby Lynn Maslen: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is when they swim in the pond naked.\u201d \u2014 Odin Kirby, age 7<\/p>\n

\u201cLilliput\u201d by Sam Gayton: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is that the author creates a believable fantasy of an island of tiny people, and that it matches our world, so they can make things with spider\u2019s silk.\u201d \u2014 Annika Schwartz, age 12<\/p>\n

\u201cWarren the 13th and the All Seeing Eye\u201d by Tavia Del Rio: \u201cMy favorite part of the book is when Warren the 13th defeats his evil Aunt Annaconda because it\u2019s very exciting.\u201d \u2014 Minta Schwartz, age 10.<\/p>\n

From the Mendenhall Valley Library:<\/p>\n

\u201cMartin\u2019s Big Words\u201d by Doreen Rappaport: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is it teaches you a lot of quotes of Martin Luther King.\u201d \u2014 Mateo Carrasco.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Shoes\u201d by Susan Lynn Meyer: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is the girls make their own shoes\u201d \u2014 Adalyn Williams, age 5.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. DeSoto\u201d by William Steig: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is when they trick the fox into believing super glue would give him no pain at all in his mouth again.\u201d \u2014 Bradana Gillman, age 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cSunny Side Up\u201d by Jennifer Home: \u201cI loved the way that two parts of the book completely tied together, even though they were different parts!\u201d \u2014 Viviana Perez.<\/p>\n

\u201cJane Goodall: 40 Years at Gombe\u201d by Jennifer Lindsey: \u201cOne fascinating part of this book is that when Jane was young she was missing for hours. Somebody saw her come out of a hen house. She said she had to see how a hen laid an egg.\u201d \u2014 Addy Lanz, age 8.<\/p>\n
