At question: Why do people hitchhike in British Columbia?<\/p>\n<p>The question has a serious edge: More than a dozen murders, mostly of Native women, took place along BC\u2019s Highway 16 between 1969 and 2011. The murders have caused the highway to be nicknamed the \u201cHighway of Tears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The expansion of the program allows surveys to be conducted in the Peace River area as well as along Highway 16.
