The October First Friday Art Walk marks the end of tourist season with locals appreciation events at several businesses, and highlights new work by locals artists including David Woodie (at the Canvas), MK MacNaughton and Jay Crondahl (Annie Kaill\u2019s), and Celeste Worl (Trickster Company), as well as writer Clint Farr (Hearthside Books) and photographer Anna Cramer (Kindred Post).<\/p>\n

First Friday Book Signing with Clint Farr<\/strong><\/p>\n Hearthside Books downtown<\/p>\n Booksigning: 5-7 p.m.<\/p>\n Local writer Clint J. Farr will sign copies of the newly released book, \u201cBeers of the North: A Field Guide to Alaska & the Yukon,\u201d written by Farr and Katie Devereaux, edited by Colleen Mondor, and published by Shorefast Editions. Designed to be a throwback to the vintage field guide, the book features retro illustrations, maps, historical sidebars and profiles that highlight Alaska and the Yukon\u2019s breweries.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Paintings by David Woodie<\/strong><\/p>\n The Canvas Community Art Studio & Gallery<\/p>\n 223 Seward St.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7 p.m.<\/p>\n David Woodie writes of this exhibit: \u201cThis body of work is a continuation of an effort to create a sense of narrative in figurative and landscape painting. The figurative images are drawn from live models in my studio, and paired with landscapes. These paintings represent the evolution of my strategy from combined image in which the model is situated in a landscape, to the more recent diptychs. I have also returned to framing. These are integral frames. Jay Crondahl\u2019s original work spans multiple styles, from landscapes to abstract to art deco.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cDream Series\u201d Paintings by Trickster Company<\/p>\n 224 S. Franklin St.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-8 p.m.<\/p>\n Trickster will host its annual locals party, featuring Celeste Worl\u2019s \u201cDream Series\u201d paintings. Worl will be DJ\u2019ing the party as well. The event includes 15 percent off store-wide and snacks including salmon spread. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cReigning Cats and Dogs\u201d photo booth installation by Anna Cramer<\/strong><\/p>\n Kindred Post<\/p>\n 145 S. Franklin St.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n Kindred Post will feature \u201cReigning Cats and Dogs,\u201d a photo booth installation by Anna Cramer, live music by Fysh, and snacks provided by GonZo.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sealaska Heritage Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n Walter Soboleff Building<\/p>\n Front and Seward Streets<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-8 p.m.<\/p>\n Sealaska Heritage Institute and the Sealaska Heritage Store will host featured artists at the Walter Soboleff Building for First Friday. During the reception, SHI will offer free admission to the exhibit, \u201cEnter the World of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Peoples\u201d and the clan house, Shuk\u00e1 H\u00edt, and the store will offer special discounts.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Comics by visiting artists Kean Soo and Tory Woollcott<\/strong><\/p>\n Alaska Robotics Gallery<\/p>\n 220 Front Street<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n Kean Soo and Tory Woollcott are visiting artists from Toronto who create comics and graphic novels. Soo is the creator of \u201cJellaby\u201d and \u201cMarch Grand Prix\u201d comics, he is also a contributor to the \u201cFlight\u201d anthologies and has assisted with production work on Amulet.<\/p>\n Woollcott is a comics writer and artist best known for her work on \u201cMirror Mind,\u201d a comic about her experiences growing up with dyslexia.<\/p>\n In addition to a gallery show, the duo will be visiting local schools and hosting a community workshop at the canvas on Sunday, Oct. 4.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Work by Lindsay Carron<\/strong><\/p>\n JAHC Gallery<\/p>\n Juneau Arts & Culture Center<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30\u20137 p.m.<\/p>\n Lindsay Carron\u2019s exhibit will feature works in paint, charcoal and ink. Carron grew up in Wisconsin and now lives in Los Angeles. This past summer, she led \u201cplein-air\u201d painting tours in the wilderness outside of Juneau for adventure tour company Adventure Flow, The show features some of her Alaska-based work. Franklin St.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7 p.m.<\/p>\n Local artist Cris Zack will show her hand-painted, handmade paper cards, made from recycled materials and local plants. She will also show her wool-wrapped goat\u2019s milk soap and stone spreaders.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Photography by Betsy Giles<\/strong><\/p>\n GCI<\/p>\n 118 Seward Street<\/p>\n Reception: 4-6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n GCI\u2019s downtown store will feature Juneau photographer and artist Betsy Giles\u2019 first show: \u201cThe Colors of Juneau,\u201d which focuses on local landscapes. A lifelong artist, Giles recently started exploring photography.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Photography by Brian Hild <\/strong><\/p>\n Coppa<\/p>\n 917 Glacier Ave.<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7 p.m.<\/p>\n Printed directly on glass and canvas, Brian Hild\u2019s photographs are focused on the beauty of Southeast Alaska\u2019s residents and landscapes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Disasters At Home: Photographs from the City Museum Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n Juneau-Douglas City Museum<\/p>\n Fourth and Main streets<\/p>\n Reception: 4:30-7 p.m.<\/p>\n First Friday is back at the City Museum with a reception celebrating a new exhibit, \u201cDisasters At Home,\u201d featuring historical photographs documenting 11 homegrown disasters. The images include eight fires, one landslide, one avalanche, and three instances of flooding at Gold Creek, spanning 95 years of Juneau history from 1911 to 2006.<\/p>\n Each photograph is paired with historical text and a word cloud generated from newspaper articles from the day.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Local appreciation event<\/strong><\/p>\n Juneau Artists Gallery<\/p>\n 175 S.
