Glacier center updates: Free days, hours change<\/p>\n
The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center will host its annual autumn family fun day on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The free “Fall Fun Fest” takes place on the fee free day at the glacier.<\/p>\n
Events for kindergarten to second graders take place in the morning from 10 a.m.-noon. Activities for third through fifth graders take place from noon-2 p.m.<\/p>\n
“This year is more exciting than ever,” organizer Bev Levene stated in a release.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Forest Service will introduce their “Agents of Discovery” mobile gaming app for online adventures for kids. Other events include: story time for young children at 10:15 a.m., put on by the Juneau Public Library staff; Discovery Southeast will take families on scheduled outdoor adventures throughout the day; the Raptor Center will present “Blueberry,” a live raven for viewing and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will introduce families to wildlife explorations.<\/p>\n
Two students will also be honored at 11 a.m. for their contributions to the new Tongass National Forest Junior Ranger book.<\/p>\n
Schedule change<\/strong><\/p>\n The Visitor Center will close at 4 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. on Sept 23. The center will also close at 4 p.m. on Sept. 24, 28 and 29. On these four days, the building will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.<\/p>\n The Visitor Center will be open for the regular summer hours (8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.) the rest of September.
