The power of music will be on full display at free movie showings Thursday.<\/p>\n
The Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska is providing two free showings of “Alive Inside,”<\/a> a documentary about the way music can fight memory loss and some of the activists who have taken unconventional approaches to health care. Both showings — one at noon and one at 5:30 p.m. — are at the Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska conference room at 3225 Hospital Drive in Juneau.<\/p>\n The film, which won the Audience Award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, follows people such as Dan Cohen, who founded the nonprofit Music &Memory that helps restore a sense of self in those suffering from dementia. Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska Education Specialist Amber Smith said the movie relates to both the Juneau Pioneer Home<\/a> and Wildflower Court<\/a>, which both are certified to use the Music &Memory treatment.<\/p>\n “It’s really powerful,” Smith said. “It shows actual people who have dementia being exposed to music of their choice.”<\/p>\n There’s no prior registration required for the movies, and Smith said the event is casual enough where attendees can even bring their own lunch or dinner along.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The power of music will be on full display at free movie showings Thursday.
