The Frank Maier Marathon and Douglas Island Half Marathon take place Saturday at Savikko Park. Marathon starts are staggered at 5, 6 and 7 a.m., while half marathon starts are 8 and 9 a.m. Race day signup is available no later than one hour before race start.<\/p>\n

The course runs the length of Douglas Island\u2019s road system, starting and ending at Savikko Park. Runners turn around at Picnic Cove at False Outer Point for the marathon and about halfway into North Douglas Highway for the half marathon.<\/p>\n

About 160 people have signed up for the race at press time, with Southeast Road Runners President John Kerr expecting around 200 to participate, including race-day signups. The public is encouraged to come out and support Juneau\u2019s distance runners.<\/p>\n

Post 25 chases state title<\/strong><\/p>\n

Juneau\u2019s Post 25 dropped to the losers\u2019 bracket Wednesday in the American Legion Baseball state tournament in Anchorage, losing to Wasilla 3-5. Juneau secured an early 3-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the first three innings but Wasilla Post 35 tied the game with a three-run seventh and rallied for the decisive lead with two runs in the ninth.<\/p>\n

Results for Post 25\u2019s Thursday match against in the losers\u2019 bracket weren\u2019t available at press time. Juneau can still play their way into the 3 p.m. Saturday state title game in the double-elimination tournament; If they make that far they will have win twice to claim the title. The second championship game, if necessary, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
