Eaglecrest Ski Area\u2019s annual Hilary Lindh Scholarship Competition is open once again, with four winners who will be awarded a 2015-16 season pass to Juneau\u2019s local ski hill.<\/p>\n
The selection committee will judge applicants based on three main criteria: scholastic achievement; competitive spirit; and financial need. All Juneau area students are eligible to apply within the four divisions, which include one boy and girl in K through fifth grade, and one boy and one girl in sixth through 12th grade.<\/p>\n
To be considered for this scholarship, students must be a resident of Juneau, attend Juneau School District schools or equivalent, and have maintained a \u201cC\u201d average for the previous school year. <\/p>\n
The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, Dec. 3.<\/p>\n
According to a release from Eaglecrest, the judging committee is looking for \u201cstudents whose competitive spirit reflects Hilary Lindh\u2019s commitment to ski racing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Any student who completes an application packet and meets all judging criteria will receive an Eaglecrest lift ticket and equipment rental package.<\/p>\n
Applications are available online at http:\/\/SkiJuneau.com\/Lindh.php, as well as at locations around Juneau \u2014 area schools, Foggy Mountain Shop, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, or Eaglecrest Ski Area. Submit completed applications to Eaglecrest via email, fax, mail, or in person at the Eaglecrest ticket window by noon on the deadline day. Pick up an application form for detailed instructions on submitting.<\/p>\n
The 2015-16 scholarship recipients will be announced on Friday, Dec. 11.<\/p>\n
The Hilary Lindh Scholarship Competition was established in 1992 in recognition of Lindh\u2019s Silver Medal in the 1992 Winter Olympics. At a young age Lindh started skiing at Eaglecrest, she dedicated years of hard work to downhill ski racing, and was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in April 2006 as well as the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame in February 2009.<\/p>\n
