{"id":22208,"date":"2016-02-17T09:02:23","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T17:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/aarp-alaska-recognizes-laraine-derr-for-her-commitment-to-community-service\/"},"modified":"2016-02-17T09:02:23","modified_gmt":"2016-02-17T17:02:23","slug":"aarp-alaska-recognizes-laraine-derr-for-her-commitment-to-community-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/aarp-alaska-recognizes-laraine-derr-for-her-commitment-to-community-service\/","title":{"rendered":"AARP Alaska Recognizes Laraine Derr for her commitment to community service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANCHORAGE \u2013<\/strong> Juneau resident Laraine Derr has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2015 AARP Alaska Andrus Award for Community Service &#8212; the Association\u2019s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.<\/p>\n<p>AARP Alaska selected Derr as her \u201cremarkable service has greatly benefited the community, supported AARP\u2019s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers,\u201d according to an AAPR release.<\/p>\n<p>As described by Juneau resident Ray Vidic, who nominated Derr, \u201cWhen Laraine takes on a task she delves into the necessary research and planning with high energy and tenacity to meet and conquer obstacles to get the job done. She puts in the greatest effort whether she is washing dishes after the food bank dinner or tackling complex issues of the Mental Health Trust Authority without seeking notoriety. Laraine has worked extensively with individuals and organizations in Juneau and across the state for the benefit of Alaskans, young and old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The award was formally presented to Derr at a ceremony in Juneau on Feb. 10.
