{"id":22303,"date":"2016-03-04T09:05:44","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T17:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/1a-tourney-skagway-boys-best-angoon\/"},"modified":"2016-03-04T09:05:44","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T17:05:44","slug":"1a-tourney-skagway-boys-best-angoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/sports\/1a-tourney-skagway-boys-best-angoon\/","title":{"rendered":"1A Tourney: Skagway boys best Angoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Skagway boys basketball team maintained its lead all game against Angoon, living to play another day.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers bested the Eagles 40-24 on Wednesday in the losers\u2019 bracket of the Region V 1A Basketball Tournament held at Thunder Mountain High School.<\/p>\n<p>Skagway junior guard Kato Shindo led all scorers with 17 points, followed by juniors Alex Ackerman and Colton Belisle with eight each, and freshman Danny Brady with seven.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles were led in scoring by junior Jacob McCluskey with 10 points, sophomore Jaxon Collins with five, and senior Nathanial Hunter-Skeek with four.<\/p>\n<p>Skagway built up a slight lead after the first quarter, 12-8, and then gave up only a single point in the second quarter for a 19-9 advantage at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>Angoon posted its highest point total in the third, matching Skagway point-for-point to end the quarter 31-21.<\/p>\n<p>Angoon hit a dry spell offensively in the final quarter, only scoring three points.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles were knocked out of the tournament with the loss. Skagway will next play at 12:45 p.m. today against the loser of the Klawock\/Hoonah game.
