Win Gruening\u2019s editorial in the Dec. 18 Juneau Empire was more about trying to smear Gov. Bill Walker than building the road. He wrote about how the anti-road people helped get Walker elected \u201c\u2026 and he has paid them in full.\u201d Bull paddies! Gruening tried to help former Gov. Sean Parnell get elected by contributing $500 to his campaign. It sounds to me like Gruening is a poor loser. Get over it.<\/p>\n
The Empire pointed out in its front-page article, \u201c\u2026 since 1905, when the Juneau Chamber of Commerce suggested construction of a road to Atlin, British Columbia, the city of Juneau, territory of Alaska and state of Alaska have repeatedly planned and canceled projects that would connect Juneau to the North American road system.\u201d Road talk has been going on for 110 years.<\/p>\n
The state of Alaska is facing a $3 billion budget crisis. The majority of legislators refused to address the crisis the last session. Had those legislators fixed the crisis then maybe there would have been money for the road. This is not Walker\u2019s fault, it rests with the legislators.<\/p>\n
