The Mendenhall Flying Lions Club held their 20th annual Rib Barbecue on Nov. 7, benefiting the Alaska Diabetes Association. Once again, we owe the success of our barbecue to the people of Juneau and those merchants that donated their product, time, staff and facility. Because of your support, we will send approximately $3,150 to the Alaska Diabetes Association.<\/p>\n
We appreciate everyone who showed up at McGivney\u2019s Sports Bar & Grill for dinner, purchased a rack of ribs to take home and offered monetary donations. All proceeds from the barbecue will benefit programs and services in Southeast Alaska: summer camp (Camp K) for children with Type 1 diabetes; provide materials and programs to support hospitals, clinics and health fairs; and education and referral services to patients, health care providers and families.<\/p>\n
A special thanks to McGiveney\u2019s, who allowed us to use their premises and staff to make this event possible. Randy Sutak of Randy\u2019s Rib Shack donated his time and equipment to smoke the ribs. Teddy\u2019s Tasty Meats of Anchorage donated 300 pounds of ribs to the Alaska Diabetes Association, who in turn donated the ribs to us. Super Bear provided the ingredients for the beans. Food Services of America donated the coleslaw and the Alaskan Brewing Company provided the beer. Jerry\u2019s Meats and Seafoods also helped by storing and thawing the ribs for us.<\/p>\n
