On July 7, 1986, the Juneau Empire recapped the many celebratory Independence Day events in the newspaper. Juneau and Douglas residents had their picture taken by photographer Ron Klein, who used a 64-year-old Cirkuit camera to capture nearly 1,000 community members after the Independence Day parade.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings change. There\u2019ll be buildings that disappear and people that disappear,\u201d Klein said, then the only photographer in Juneau who could produce panoramic images. \u201cIt\u2019s my way of giving the people something.\u201d<\/p>\n

With a three-week hiatus over, City and Borough of Juneau Assembly members came back into session with a large workload ahead of them. Issues included a mining ordinance, a project for housing mentally ill residents and a resolution thanking a senator for his service.<\/p>\n

During the J.D. Pence Northwest Open Invitational Swim Meet in Eugene, Oregon, Juneau\u2019s Glacier Swim Club placed eighth against the competing 22 swim teams. <\/p>\n
