{"id":25889,"date":"2016-02-26T23:00:12","date_gmt":"2016-02-27T07:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/deputy-education-commissioner-to-retire\/"},"modified":"2016-02-26T23:00:12","modified_gmt":"2016-02-27T07:00:12","slug":"deputy-education-commissioner-to-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/deputy-education-commissioner-to-retire\/","title":{"rendered":"Deputy education commissioner to retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three weeks after the head of Alaska\u2019s Department of Education and Early Development announced his departure, one of his deputies is headed out the door alongside him.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, deputy education commissioner Les Morse announced he will retire effective March 1.<\/p>\n<p>That is the same date that commissioner Mike Hanley will step down from his position.<\/p>\n<p>Hanley will be replaced by Susan McCauley, director of the department\u2019s teaching and learning support division<\/p>\n<p>Morse became a deputy commissioner in 2008, five years after joining the state education department, but he has a long history of teaching in Juneau.
