The volunteer group looking for former Juneau resident Joseph Balderas has ended large-scale searches and is no longer asking for donations.

Balderas, 36, was reported missing June 27 when he didn’t show up to his job as a law clerk at the Nome court. He lived in Juneau in 2013.

Friends and family of Balderas are “scaling back their search,” according to a Wednesday post on the Finding Joseph Facebook page, which has been giving regular updates on the search.

“Although the organized efforts have ended, many of Joseph’s friends and family will never stop searching. On every run, every fishing trip, every hike through the mountains, their eyes, ears, and hearts will be open, looking for signs of Joseph. Someday, they will find him,” the post said.

The last day of the Alaska State Troopers-led search was July 3. Organized volunteer efforts continued through the holiday weekend and ended July 5 “because no new information was gathered,” the post said. “Many hours have gone into this endeavor, and it is with sadness the team has little to report on Joseph’s whereabouts.”

Related stories:
