{"id":26469,"date":"2016-09-20T08:00:35","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T15:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/anchorage-emergency-officials-issue-high-wind-watch\/"},"modified":"2016-09-20T08:00:35","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T15:00:35","slug":"anchorage-emergency-officials-issue-high-wind-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/anchorage-emergency-officials-issue-high-wind-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Anchorage emergency officials issue high wind watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANCHORAGE \u2014 The Anchorage Office of Emergency Management is warning of high winds that could hit the city.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency officials said a powerful storm system in the Bering Sea will bring a strong front through southcentral Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s expected to arrive Tuesday night and stay through Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>A high-wind watch is in effect for that time for homes at higher elevations in south Anchorage, along Turnagain Arm and in Eagle River.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency officials said winds could reach 30-45 mph with gusts to 65 mph at lower elevations.<\/p>\n<p>At higher elevations, winds could blow 50-65 mph with gusts as high as 100 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said people should prepare for loose debris causing damage and the possibility of downed trees and power lines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANCHORAGE \u2014 The Anchorage Office of Emergency Management is warning of high winds that could hit the city.
