{"id":26501,"date":"2017-05-29T17:39:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T00:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/plane-crash-near-haines-kills-juneau-pilot-californian\/"},"modified":"2017-05-29T17:39:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T00:39:00","slug":"plane-crash-near-haines-kills-juneau-pilot-californian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/plane-crash-near-haines-kills-juneau-pilot-californian\/","title":{"rendered":"Plane crash near Haines kills Juneau pilot, Californian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANCHORAGE \u2014 Four men are dead and one is in the hospital after two separate plane crashes in Alaska on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>TV station KTUU <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2qv2hEF\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> 81-year-old Sam Brice of Fairbanks and Howard \u201cBuzz\u201d Otis of North Pole died after the single-engine plane they were in crashed while landing near Fairbanks.<\/p>\n<p>A National Transportation Safety Board spokesman says a Piper PA-30 crashed near Haines, killing the pilot, 29-year old David Kunat of Juneau, and a man from California whose identity has not yet been released. Another passenger, 31-year old Chan Valentine of Juneau, survived the crash and was taken to a hospital.
