With just four losses this season, the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears girls basketball team has a great chance to make the state tournament. The Crimson Bears play tonight at 6:30 p.m. against either Thunder Mountain or Ketchikan High School in the second round of the 4A Girls Region V basketball tournament. A state tournament berth would prolong the high school careers of two varsity seniors: Meghna Bathija and Georgia Robinson. Here, head coach Lesslie Knight shares her thoughts on Bathija, Robinson and three other seniors who played on junior varsity.

Meghna Bathija – It’s awesome to watch a kid start on the C team and work their way up. As a senior, this is her first year on varsity. Meghna also has a 4.0 and has moved into a starting position.

Georgia Robinson – Georgia I’ve had on varsity since she was sophomore. We’ve used her as a defensive stopper – she’s a soccer player. She’s got some stamina and some speed and we use her to use her feet and legs to contain people. Georgia has a 3.9 GPA.

Rena Nauer – Rena was a part of the program for 4 years, on injured reserve for 2 1/2 with two different knee injuries.

Maddie Johnson – Maddie’s main sport is softball, she played basketball her freshmen and senior years.

Patricia Enriquez – Patricia is brand new to basketball, this is her first year. Her main sport is volleyball.
