Salt will hold a dinner to support the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The dinner is “black-tie optional,” so patrons are encouraged to dress up or come in costume in the spirit of the Halloween season. Cabaret-style entertainment will be provided by Sara Radke Brown, Derrick Grimes and Madi Nolan, accompanied by Salt regular Tom Locher on the keyboard.

“We are so excited to feature these performers in such an intimate setting,” said Diana Rossmiller, a member of the JFHBC board. “It’s not often you can enjoy an excellent dinner and fine singing at the same time. I understand they might even share a song or two about birth, so it’s on topic, too!”

Salt’s chef, Lionel Uddipa, has created special entrees just for this event. Diners will have a choice of Alaskan halibut with parsnip puree, sauteed kale, roasted tomatoes, and a citrus beurre-blanc; chicken cooked under a brick with creamy mascarpone cheese polenta, caramelized carrots & parsnips, brandy demi-glace; or the ever-popular Vegetarian Wellington with yams, Portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, bleu cheese, red wine reduction and creamy mascarpone cheese polenta.

A dessert auction, featuring some of Juneau’s bakers, will follow the three-course meal.

Proceeds from the dinner will support donated health care services provided by the JFHBC for women and families in need. JFHBC midwives provide prenatal care and attend both homebirths and births at the birth center.

“We serve a broad range of clients and health care needs,” Rossmiller said. “We are committed to providing midwifery care, affordable and accessible health care, parenting education and support and preventive counseling.”

Tickets are $100 per person. Call the JFHBC at 586-1203 for more information and tickets.
