Juneau Arts & Humanities Council is welcoming nominations for the 2016 Mayor\u2019s Awards for the Arts.<\/p>\n

Awards will be presented in these categories: Volunteer For the Arts: Recognizes individuals whose support for the arts through significant contributions of time, services, or financial support has made a significant impact on our community. Business Leadership in the Arts: Recognizes businesses (profit or nonprofit) or individual business leaders whose efforts enhance and sustain the arts in Juneau, and set them apart as model corporate citizens. Artist: Honors individuals for their creative contributions to the community. Innovative Application of the Arts: Recognizes individuals, businesses or programs whose work uses the arts in new and inspirational ways to improve our community. Arts in Education: Recognized individuals, programs, or businesses whose efforts advance the arts in education. Arts Organization: Recognizes a local arts and culture organization for significant contributions that help to make Juneau the vibrant and creative community it is. Lifetime Achievement: Recognizes individuals whose long-standing commitment and dedication in the community has been outstanding. Note that this award may not be awarded each year.<\/p>\n

Nominations will be accepted through July 15. Nomination forms are available at the Council offices or on-line at http:\/\/www.jahc.org\/mayors-awards-for-the-arts. Winners of the awards will be announced in August, and the awards presented on August 19, 2016 at the JACC, at the annual membership celebration.<\/p>\n

Previous awardees for the \u201cartist\u201d category are, Heather Haugland and Antonio Diaz (2007), Barbara Craver (2008), Sue Kazama (2009\/2010), Della Cheney (2011), Dan Hopson (2012), Christy NaMee Eriksen (2013), Dan Fruits (2014), and Pat Belec (2015.)<\/p>\n

Previous awardees for Arts in Education have been Lorrie Heagy (2007), Julia Bastuschek (2008), Shona Strauser (2009\/2010), MK MacNaughton (2011), Nancy Lehnhart & Mimi Mendica (2012), Shgen George (2013), Jan Niemeyer (Posthumously, 2014), and Heather Ridgway (2015.)<\/p>\n

Previous awardees for Arts Organization have been Alaska Folk Festival (2013), Juneau Symphony (2014), and Juneau Lyric Opera (2015).<\/p>\n

Previous awardees for Business Leadership in the Arts have been Annie Geselle and REACH\/The Canvas (2007), Candy and Dick Behrends, Behrends Mechanical (2008), Alaska Litho (2009\/2010), Elgee Rehfeld Mertz, LLC (2011), Alaskan Brewing (2012), Amy Fletcher (Professional Leadership in the Arts, 2013), Alaska Airlines (2014), and Annie Kaills (2015).<\/p>\n

Previous awardees for Innovative Application of the Arts include Alberta Aspen, Our Auntie\u2019s House (2007), Alice Tersteeg (2008), Adele Hamey, Taku Graphics (2009\/2010), Theatre in the Rough (2011), Lucid Reverie (2012), Guo Hua Xia (Visionary Application for the Arts, 2013), Mudrooms (Visionary Application of the Arts, 2014). and Ron Gile (2015).<\/p>\n
