I\u2019m writing to encourage residents to support Greg Fisk for City and Borough of Juneau mayor. Greg is a leader who puts ideas into action and I know first-hand that his efforts will effect positive change for all of Juneau.<\/p>\n
A few years back when it looked like downtown might not have a full-service supermarket, Greg was at the forefront of the effort to create a food cooperative. In just a matter of weeks, the group had bylaws, 40 investors who pooled more than $20,000, plus an $11,000 grant from a national food co-op foundation. I became one of those investors and a board member. Although the crisis was resolved when IGA leased the former Alaskan & Proud location, in the weeks leading up to that announcement I was amazed at our progress with Greg as chairman. <\/p>\n
I am impressed by Greg\u2019s leadership. When chairing meetings, he is a patient and attentive listener. He\u2019s also one of the best facilitators I\u2019ve ever met. His ability to keep the group focused and actively participating during open discussion of a problem or idea comes from years of experience. Looking now at Greg\u2019s record of achievements, I see where all that experience came from: six years on the Juneau Economic Development Council Board; 10 years on Docks and Harbors Board \u2014 many of them as board chairman \u2014 and chairman of Capital Improvements. He\u2019s also currently in his fourth year on the board of the Downtown Business Association.<\/p>\n
Greg is a rare Juneau leader, a nonpartisan guy who can bring people together from all viewpoints to solve our shared issues. He\u2019s been a commercial fisherman, an economic advisor to tribes and a consultant focusing on economic development.
