Community gathering,<\/strong> 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, 360 North, KTOO Studio. This meeting was organized by community members in response to the recent deaths in Juneau from heroin. All are welcome.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Woosh Kinaadeiy\u00ed <\/strong>Grand Poetry Slam competition,<\/strong> 7 p.m., <\/span>Saturday, Oct. 17,  Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The event will celebrate the organization\u2019s five years of monthly poetry slams and open mic events in the community. Competing in the slam are Erika Bergren, Fysh Houck, David Parish, Maureen Longworth, Christina Apathy, and Mike Christenson. Evening at Egan presentation: <\/strong>\u201cA Wolf Called Romeo,\u201d with author Nick Jans, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, UAS Egan Library. Alaskan author and photographer Nick Jans will trace the true story of Romeo, Juneau\u2019s black wolf, through a narrated slide show, short video clips, and readings from his book. See page 19.<\/p>\n

2nd Annual Garlic Lovers\u2019 Potluck,<\/strong> 4:30\u20136:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, The Canvas, 223 Seward St. Hosted by the Juneau Garden Club. Bring your favorite garlic dish; garlic breads are featured. Joe Orsi, Ed Buyarski and David Love will discuss cultivation, harvest and storage, and offer varietal taste tests. JDHS\u2019 production will be the non-musical version of the play taken from the novel written by Sally Benson, with musical numbers presented between the three acts. Barney McClure\u2019s Cabaret Workshop,<\/strong> 5-10 p.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 12-16. JACC. Jazz pianist and teacher Barney McClure returns to Juneau to offer a five-day cabaret workshop. Singers will learn the fundamentals of cabaret, including choosing the right material, song interpretation, microphone technique, stage presence and the protocol of being a performer. The workshop culminates with a public performance on Oct. 16 at the JACC. Hosted by Juneau Jazz and Classics.<\/p>\n
