The Juneau-Douglas High School girls swim team once again rallied behind their relay teams and the individual swims of juniors Mia Ruffin and Gabi Kito to capture the Region V Championship on Saturday in Sitka.<\/p>\n

The Crimson Bears girls scored 172 points with Sitka second at 113, Thunder Mountain third with 90, Ketchikan 53 and Petersburg 38. On the boy\u2019s side Sitka scored 151.50, Ketchikan 104.50, TMHS 92, JDHS 83, Petersburg 42 and Craig 3. For combined scores Sitka had 264.50, JDHS 255, TMHS 182, Kayhi 157.50, Petersburg 80 and Craig 3.<\/p>\n

The JDHS girls\u2019 200-yard medley relay team of senior Eliza Chappell, Ruffin, Kito and sophomore Andyn Mulgrew-Truitt won in 1:52.33 (3 TMHS 1:58.34). Sitka won the boy\u2019s medley in 1:42.94 (2 TMHS 1:45.36, 3 JDHS 1:47.25).<\/p>\n

JDHS senior Rielly Walsh, senior Sophia Kaelke, freshman Cameron Howard and Mulgrew-Truitt took the girl\u2019s 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.94 (4 TMHS 1:49.77). Sitka won the boys in 1:34.37 (2 TMHS 1:37.68, 4 JDHS 1:43.53). <\/p>\n

JDHS\u2019 Kito, Walsh, Kaelke and Ruffin were just out-touched by Sitka in the girl\u2019s 400 free relay 3:44.45 to 3:44.51 (3 TMHS 3:55.29). Kayhi won the boys in 3:23.18 (3 JDHS 3:34.85, 5 TMHS 3:50.43).<\/p>\n

Ruffin captured the girl\u2019s 200 yard IM in 2:12.87 with teammate Taelyn Norvell second at 2:22.65, TMHS sophomore Evangelyn Pajarillo third with 2:26.08, TMHS sophomore Annie Hagen fourth 2:26.71, JDHS freshman Dessa Gerger fifth 2:36.79, TMHS freshman Anna Fraizer seventh 2:37.60 and JDHS freshman Sunny Tveten eighth 2:47.45.<\/p>\n

Ruffin also won the girl\u2019s 100 breaststroke in 1:08.30 (4 Hagen 1:13.56, 6 TMHS sophomore Claire Norman 1:15.14, 7 Norvell 1:15.74, 8 JDHS senior Kaia Hamrick 1:18.51, TMHS freshman Selma Matiashowski 1:25.42).<\/p>\n

Kito added to the JDHS team points by securing a win in the girl\u2019s 100 butterfly in 1:01.54 with TMHS sophomore Peyten Schultz second at 1:04.46 (3 Pajarillo 1:06.83, 5 Gerger 1:11.78, 6 TMHS sophomore Teonna Wilkinson 1:22.95, 7 Tveten 1:23.56, 8 JDHS senior Helen Thurston 1:27.78, TMHS sophomore Dang Xue Loseby 1:27.71).<\/p>\n

TMHS had a strong showing from their freshmen boys. Bergen Davis won the 200 IM in 2:00.28 with JDHS junior Aidan Seid third at 2:05.94 and TMHS sophomore Brady Allio sixth with 2:52.54. Davis also took the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.70 (5 JDHS freshman Tyler Weldon 1:10.53, 8 JDHS senior Elias Antaya 1:13.44). Spencer Holt topped the 100 fly in 55.10 with JDHS junior Will Blanc second at 58.36 and JDHS\u2019 Antaya fourth 1:05.23.<\/p>\n

Sitka freshman Jessica Davis won the girl\u2019s 100 free in 55.54 and Walsh was second with 57.05 and Petersburg\u2019s Izabelle Ith third 57.49 (4 JDHS\u2019 Mulgrew-Truitt 58.98, 5 TMHS\u2019 Norman 59.10, 6 JDHS\u2019 Chappell 59.28, 7 TMHS senior Naomi Ferster 59.55, JDHS junior Sarah Mertz 1:04.27). Davis also won the girl\u2019s 100 backstroke in 59.88 with JDHS\u2019 Chappell second in 1:04.23 and TMHS senior Taylor Beardslee third at 1:04.83 (4 JDHS junior Sarah Mertz 1:05.11, 6 JDHS junior Ria Padro 1:11.64, 8 TMHS freshman Anna Fraizer 1:14.67, JDHS sophomore Chloe Likins 1:16.64, TMHS senior Joy Elizarde 1:22.80).<\/p>\n

Sitka senior Brady Harang won the boy\u2019s 100 back in 56.54 with JDHS\u2019 Seid second in 57.75, JDHS\u2019 Schumacher fourth at 59.91 and TMHS freshman Chris Ray fifth in 1:00.00.<\/p>\n

Ketchikan senior Brennen Schulz won the boy\u2019s 100 free in 50.50 with JDHS junior Eric Schumacher second at 51.66 (6 JDHS freshman Tate Goering 55.57, 7 TMHS freshman Gavin Speth 56.34, TMHS\u2019 Allio 1:00.19).<\/p>\n

Sitka sophomore Skylar Moore won the girl\u2019s 200 freestyle in 1:57.52 with Kito second at 2:00.46, Kaelke third 2:02.80, Howard fourth 2:05.53 and Schultz fifth 2:06.67.<\/p>\n

Sitka senior Will Pate won the boy\u2019s 200 free in 1:47.73 with Holt second at 1:51.08 (4 JDHS junior Jack Weaver 1:55.21, 6 JDHS\u2019 Blanc 1:59.78, 7 JDHS\u2019 Goering 2:00.04, TMHS freshman Raymie Matiashowski 2:00.28). Pate also won the boy\u2019s 500 free in 4:49.15 (6 TMHS\u2019 Ray 5:20.28, 8 TMHS\u2019 Matiashowski 5:39.29).<\/p>\n

Ketchikan senior Kiera O\u2019Brien won the girl\u2019s 50 free in 25.05 with Sitka sophomore Whitney McArthur second at 25.54 and PSG\u2019s Ith third 25.87 (4 JDHS\u2019 Walsh 25.97, 5 JDHS\u2019 Mulgrew-Truitt 26.35, JDHS\u2019 Hamrick 28.12, JDHS\u2019 Thurston 31.31). O\u2019Brien also won the girl\u2019s 500 free in 5:26.52 with JDHS\u2019 Kaelke second in 5:36.56 (4 JDHS\u2019 Howard 5:44.53, 6 JDHS junior Ria Padro 6:11.65, 8 JDHS junior Emme MacDonald 6:38.21).<\/p>\n

Sitka senior James Morland win the boy\u2019s 50 free in 23.36 with KTN sophomore Gabe Bowlen second at 23.58 (4 TMHS\u2019 Speth 24.82, 5 TMHS freshman Noatak Post 25.58).<\/p>\n

Ketchikan junior boy Kegan Rhein was the only diver and scored 291.35 points.<\/p>\n
