If you’ve ever wondered what you’d do if a large fire broke out in Juneau, the American Red Cross is running a workshop this Friday to prepare people for the worst.<\/p>\n
The training will seek to train volunteers to set up a shelter in the case of a large-scale fire (such as an apartment fire). Anyone is welcome. The workshop will begin at 5 p.m. at the Hagevig Regional Fire Training Center at 2601 Sherwood Lane. It will then move to a shelter at Faith Lutheran Church nearby, and will run until about 8 p.m.<\/p>\n
The training will allow attendees to practice how to open and operate an emergency shelter. Attendees will learn how to organize registration, feed people and house people.<\/p>\n
American Red Cross Southeast Disaster Program Manager Andrew Bogar said in a release that having volunteers at the ready will help with the organization’s response to a major fire.<\/p>\n
“We need to know that we can expand our response as the situation grows,” Bogar said in a release. “This is actually going to test and stress our leadership volunteers. We need to make sure that we’re addressing all the various activities needed during the early stages of a larger response.”<\/p>\n
