{"id":28650,"date":"2016-11-04T08:05:06","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T15:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/sitka-veterinarians-try-to-find-missing-pet-cockatoo\/"},"modified":"2016-11-04T08:05:06","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T15:05:06","slug":"sitka-veterinarians-try-to-find-missing-pet-cockatoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/sitka-veterinarians-try-to-find-missing-pet-cockatoo\/","title":{"rendered":"Sitka veterinarians try to find missing pet cockatoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SITKA<\/strong> \u2014 A Sitka couple is asking for the community\u2019s help in locating their Moluccan cockatoo.<\/p>\n<p>Burgess Bauder and his wife, Victoria Vosburg, who are both veterinarians, are offering an $800 reward to anyone who finds the pale pink bird named Keta, The Sitka Sentinel reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am just as devastated,\u201d Vosburg said. \u201cWe don\u2019t know what happened to her and don\u2019t know if she\u2019s suffering right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old cockatoo was last seen Oct. 17, when Bauder\u2019s son stopped by Keta\u2019s shelter to check on the bird while his father was away on a trip. The son noticed her missing the next day when he went to feed her.<\/p>\n<p>Keta recently had her wings clipped and is unable to fly. The bird, like other Moluccan cockatoos, also has a loud, distinct scream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe screams like a banshee,\u201d Bauder said. \u201cMy wife would always put ear plugs in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple got Keta in 1994 and the bird has become \u201ca part of our family,\u201d Vosburg said.<\/p>\n<p>Since she has been missing, there have been reports of people hearing Keta\u2019s scream, but the couple hasn\u2019t had any success in finding her, Vosburg said.<\/p>\n<p>Sitka police are working to track down Keta and have even gone door-to-door asking people to be on the lookout for the bird.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone has come across the animal they thought was abandoned or lost, make a call,\u201d animal control officer Ken Buxton said. \u201cKeta is not abandoned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officers are encouraging people to report any bird noises they hear and to turn in the bird if they spot it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you find it feel free to bring it in,\u201d said police Lt.
