On Oct. 27, 1986, the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly planned to review a sales tax proposal that was rejected by Juneau voters during the latest municipal election. The proposal, which would have extended the temporary 4 percent sales tax until 1988, was strongly supported by the city Assembly.<\/p>\n
A former Juneau Fourth of July Committee official pleaded not guilty to a charge claiming she stole money from the committee in 1983 and 1984. The charge alleged she stole $2,000 from the committee in charge of the Miss Juneau Pageant.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the race for Lt. Governor between incumbent Stephen McAlpine and Terry Miller gained speed. While the gubernatorial race had its fair share of political rhetoric, this race was ending on a positive note after Miller complimented Lt. Gov. McAlpine on the progress he made with increasing technology use in his office during his tenure.<\/p>\n
