{"id":29197,"date":"2016-05-11T08:02:46","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T15:02:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/juneau-dance-theatres-spring-showcase\/"},"modified":"2016-05-11T08:02:46","modified_gmt":"2016-05-11T15:02:46","slug":"juneau-dance-theatres-spring-showcase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/juneau-dance-theatres-spring-showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"Juneau Dance Theatre\u2019s Spring Showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>JUNEAU \u2014 <\/strong>Juneau Dance Theatre will present an an exciting mixed repertoire during their annual Spring Showcase.<\/p>\n<p>The performance series will incorporate all JDT youth programs, including Pre-Ballet thru Ballet V, Children\u2019s Hip Hop, Modern, and Choreo Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>The program features excepts from \u201cThe Sleeping Beauty\u201d and Matthew Neenan\u2019s \u201c11:11,\u201d a contemporary ballet danced to the music of Rufus Wainwright. A murder mystery set to Saint-Sa\u00ebns\u2019 Danse Macabre conceived and developed by the Choreo Workship dancers. Also, singer Jocelyn Miles, winner of Juneau\u2019s Got Talent will perform at least one song.<\/p>\n<p>JDT has been granted permission from the Balanchine Trust to perform \u201cFascinatin\u2019 Rhythm\u201d from George Balanchine\u2019s \u201cWho Cares?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to be performing Balanchine\u2019s choreography,\u201d said Julie Diana, JDT\u2019s executive director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot many schools are allowed to dance his work! This piece in particular is a tremendous gift to our dancers and a wonderful introduction for people who\u2019ve never seen a Balanchine ballet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diana will coach the variation, serving as the Balanchine Trust\u2019s repetiteur for JDT.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the program is a duet to Judy Garland\u2019s Me and My Shadow, staged by Artistic Director Zachary Hench, a lyrical ensemble piece called Waves, and new works by JDT instructors Alexandra Brown and Marisha Bourgeois.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a powerful moment when the curtain goes up on 85 students from our thriving ballet program,\u201d Hench said. \u201cBut we\u2019re so proud of all our dancers!
